WhatsApp offers a built-in feature that allows users to back up all the messages and media into a local drive as well as cloud storage ( i.e. Google Drive). It also allows you to schedule your backup to run automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Here’s how to back up WhatsApp messages:
Step 1: Open the WhatsApp app on your Android or iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on three verticle dots from the top right corner to open Whatsapp settings
Step 3: Now, select the Chats option from Settings.

Step 4: Then, scroll down to the bottom and tap on Chat Backup

Step 5: All you have to do is just tap on the green ‘BACK UP‘ button to initiate a backup on your local drive. Wait till it completes successfully. (You can also turn of End-to-end encrypted backup to secure your messages if you want).

Step 6: Alternatively, you can back up your chats into Google Drive and never worry about losing them. To do that, scroll down a bit and select the option “Back up to Google Drive” and setup your Google Account. You can turn on “Include videos” option if you want to backup WhatsApp videos as well.

Step 6 (Optional): You can also choose back up carrier over WiFi or cellular network by turning on/off “Back up using cellular option“.

You can view WhatsApp backups in WhatsApp folder in your file manager app. However, if you enable end-to-end encryption, it makes your backup more secure with encryption feature.
