How to Perform Factory Reset on any Xiaomi Smartphones

Follow the given instruction to reset your Xiaomi phone (For MIUI 12 or above users):

  1. Open the smartphone lock screen and go to “Settings” by clicking on the setting icon from the notification panel
  2. Then, go to ‘About Phone‘ section
  3. Select ‘Factory Reset‘ 
  4. Tap on ‘Erase all data
  5. Lastly, enter your screen lock pattern and Mi account password to reset your device successfully.

For MIUI 11 or below users:

  1. Unlock your smartphone with your fingerprint or pattern lock and open ‘The settings’ app
  2. Go to ‘Additional Settings
  3. Tap on ‘Back up and Restore
  4. Select ‘Factory Reset
  5. Tap on ‘Erase all data
  6. Lastly, you need to enter your lock screen password and Mi account password to get done with it.

Hard Reset Xiaomi Smartphones:

Hard reset works as same as traditional factory reset, however, both (soft reset & hard reset) are used in different scenarios. When a device does not function properly or the software freezes completely, forgot screen lock, etc then, this method is used to reset the device and restore back to the normal state. Here’s how to do this:

  1. Hold down the power button and switch off your Xiaomi device completely.
  2. Then, press the Volume down button + Power button simultaneously for 5-10 seconds.
  3. Release the Power button once the Mi logo appears on your device screen.
  4. Afterward, release the volume down button after the device booted into Recovery mode.
  5. In recovery mode, use your volume up and down buttons to move across the menu and the power button to select the menu.
  6. Then, move the cursor to the Wipe & Reset option and select using the power button
  7. Lastly, Confirm ‘Yes’ 
  8. It takes a few seconds to successfully perform the hard reset operation.
